A city full of people, but few chances to meet

In Montreal, you can cross paths with people all day and still not know who to invite out. A place, a time, and a simple activity make the invitation easier: “A 35-minute walk on Thursday at 5:30, want to come?”

Montreal is full of people, on the metro, on the Plateau, in Mile End cafés, on October patios. What is often missing is not the crowd. It is a real chance to meet. A date, a place, a short format. A chance to meet can start simply: an activity, a time slot, and an open invitation. Without that, you can pass hundreds of people and share almost nothing.

In this survey, a strong sense of belonging is linked with feeling lonely less often. Among 15-to-29-year-olds in Canada, those who report a strong sense of belonging to their local community are less likely to say they regularly feel lonely (10% versus 30% when that sense of belonging is weaker). That is an association, not proof that an app treats loneliness, and it is not what ImIn promises. You do not have to feel lonely to want a plan. Your friends can be very busy. Fall can make you want to walk or try a museum. ImIn is also for that positive pull: to discover, create, and share an in-person experience.

An invitation does not need to be complicated. An activity, a place, and a short time slot are enough to suggest a first moment together.

To start, name what you would enjoy, pick a 30-to-45-minute format, and suggest a specific activity. You can also invite someone you already know. If it goes well, suggest another outing.

If you are in serious distress, seek support from a professional. ImIn makes it easier to meet in person. The app does not replace professional care and does not guarantee a friendship.

This week, why not suggest a 30-to-40-minute walk or a 45-minute coffee?
